Warwoman Dell

Writer: Rebecca BrockRebecca Brock

Hidden in a deep cove surrounded by beautiful small trees. Storm damage cannot keep the beauty of this place from shining through.

Thinking of taking a Hike....

Warwoman Dell is a small hidden waterfall located near Clayton Georgia. It's hidden--very literally so. A storm swept through during the government shutdown and no repairs have been made to the site after the trees went down. A few moderate repairs were made, but nothing much. The pathway itself is very confusing. Make sure to park at the final parking lot, beside the large gazebo area. Follow the path behind the gazebo and about a quarter mile behind it you will find the waterfall.

“Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating it for everything that it is .”

There are other trails at Warwoman Dell, one of which begins at the first parking lot and leads you along the original pathway for the blue ridge railway. Stone stairs lead to a small spillway waterfall--which is very lovely. To the right, instead of taking the stairs, leads you to a toilet. No I'm not even kidding.

There is a large stone box that is seated to the right of the trail. It appears to be some sort of kiln, but instead of perhaps making stone products, food, or whatever have you for the railway workers--the historians have dubbed it a toilet......ok.

They state they believe that some sort of outhouse was above the stone base ( which is four feet high), and once the poo pot was full they would burn the remains. However, they themselves say they have no proof of this. I guess the theory is that they put a WOODEN building atop the stone structure...without stairs...and would occasionally set the whole thing on fire to burn off poo. \('_')/

Final Notes

The overall hike is very confusing with the downed trees and multiple routes off smaller hikes. It's not heavily monitored and it is very easy to get off the trail. My advise is to be aware of your surroundings and use the AllTrails App to help you stay on track!
