Hiking High Falls State Park

Writer: Rebecca BrockRebecca Brock

High Falls State Park offers a wide variety of activities!

Thinking of Taking a Hike...

High Falls State Park is a little known park hiding near Jackson Georgia. It's an absolutely stunning location, and as mentioned in a previous post, I came here a lot as a child.

The hiking trail is a loop trail that leads to the waterfalls, there is also a beautiful nature trail nearby as well! The hike is absolutely gorgeous though not well marked. If you take the waterfall trail you have to be very careful, the trail is not well marked or cleared well.

It will be very easy to step off trail, or fall and twist your ankle. You have to beware of the rocks and hidden roots.

There are three waterfalls that are visible from the trail--however the most impressive is the first.

You can stand on a few of the rocks safely, but you cannot go past them. The water is extremely powerful and will sweep you down stream without warning. Avoid going past railings or onto slippery rocks.

Final Thoughts:

The hike is good for the waterfall views but not for an actual walking trail. As previously stated the walking trail is not cleared or well maintained. It's easy to step off the trail so you have to be very careful. I fell myself a few times and injured my elbow. So be very cautious.

Gear for this Hike:

1) First Aid Kit

2) Trekking Poles

3)Water
