10 Things I Hate Now That I'm Pregnant

Writer's picture: Rebecca BrockRebecca Brock

Pregnancy changes a lot of things for a woman. Many things that you love suddenly become things you violently hate. Did you used to love the smell of cinnamon during the holidays? Well once you are pregnant you may not find that scent so appealing...instead it may now make you want to gag. Did you love when your husband gave you backrubs? Well now you may get irritable every time he so much as looks at you. Fortunately, none of things usually last past birth.

1) Mexican Food

I used to be a HUGE Mexican food fan, but now that I'm pregnant? Not a fan. While I don't violently throw up at the mere thought of Mexican food...I don't seek it out. I have absolutely no desire to even take a bite out of queso and chips...

2) Coffee

While I can still handle iced coffee in small doses, my usual black coffee makes me violently sick. Even the smell of coffee makes me ill. I used to be a HUGE black coffee fan, really any type of coffee fan...until the baby. Maybe once this baby is delivered I will once again enjoy my morning cup of joe.

3) Candles

I love scented candles, or at least I used to. My house was always filled with the smell of seasonal candles...that is until I got pregnant. Now, most smells trigger intense headaches or nausea. So for the most part, I avoid any and all scents. Perfume? Avoid. Air freshener? Avoid. Candles? Hell yes avoid.

4) Hugs

Before my growing baby bump became a thing, I used to love a good hug from my loved ones. But now that my bump is growing, my abs are becoming sore, and my breasts are hurting horribly, I cannot stand to be hugged. Hugs just highlight all the uncomfortable sensations of pregnancy. You can side hug...but full frontal hugs are a no until after birth.

5) Literally All My Clothes

I used to love my wardrobe...until I got pregnant. Now every outfit doesn't fit or is too hot, or uncomfortable. My pregnancy uniform is no pants and a 2xxl shirt so I have plenty of room for me and the baby to wallow around in.

6) My Hobbies

I am big into miniature/model building. The tedious and time consuming hobby helps to calm my mind and anxieties. Personally, I love building model homes. I have completed several builds, refurbished pieces, commissions, etc. However, now that I am pregnant I am too exhausted to participate in my hobbies. While I know that eventually I will return to them, and I try to use this down time to do research and take classes... the actual act of working on my hobbies is too much energy. It's just too big a mess and requires too much energy.

7) Makeup

I still put makeup on when I have one of my "good" days of pregnancy. However, I have started to avoid makeup as my breakouts have become worse and it takes too much energy in the morning. Really any activity that takes energy is a no for me.

8) Pizza

I used to love me some Pizza, but now that I'm pregnant even the smell of pizza makes me want to puke. My husband is still an avid pizza lover, but he knows that if he makes it he has to give me ample warning so I can sequester in the back bedroom. Sometimes that still isn't enough thanks to my enhanced olfactory senses.

9) Pickles

I must be one of the few pregnant women in the world who suddenly developed an aversion to pickles during her pregnancy. At the beginning of the pregnancy I loved them, but about 10 weeks in I suddenly started getting sick by the mere thought of them. Before that I was dipping pickles into peanut butter. Strange times.

10) Driving

I have always loved driving. For the past 7 years of my life I have worked at jobs that were an hour away from my home. So I have developed a deep love of driving and jamming to my tunes. It's a zen time for me, a time where I can mentally prepare or reset before the next transition of my day. However, now that I am pregnant driving has become something I try to avoid. Why? Motion sickness. I have always had a little motion sickness that flared up from time to time but usually it was if I rode in the back of a vehicle. Now, I get sick while driving. Some days are better than other with the nausea, but many times the first thing I do upon reaching my destination is finding the nearest bathroom and puking.

There are numerous other things that suddenly have become offensive to me during my pregnancy, but these ten are my main ones. What were the things you suddenly hated after becoming pregnant? Leave a comment and let me know!
