Self Care During Pregnancy

Writer's picture: Rebecca BrockRebecca Brock

Self care during pregnancy is extremely important. Your mental well being is not only important to make pregnancy more enjoyable for you, but it's critical to help keeps stress low on the baby.

Some self care that we would normally apply we can't use (i.e. an evening glass of wine, your favorite dinner of sushi, etc.) but there are other things that I have found to work really well for some TLC.

1) A Face Mask

Breakouts and dry skin are normal during pregnancy, a nice face mask can really help to rejuvenate your skin. Personally I would stay away from peel face masks as they can clog pores.

2) A Warm Bath

Not too hot! Remember to watch your body temperature and keep it below 100! But a nice warm bath can soothe a multitude of woes. I love a nice warm soak to ease round ligament pain.

3) Listen to Music

I love listening to music, it helps to calm me down and relax me.

4) Treat Yourself!

Remember, pregnancy is hard, and you are doing a great job! Treat yourself every once in a while. Want those new fuzzy socks? Get them! Want to buy that new purse? Do it. Want to get yourself a whole cookie cake? Girl go for it.

5) Rest

Rest, rest, rest. Resting is so important to both you and your baby. Your body needs all available energy to grow and care for this little one!

6) Have a Cup of Hot Tea

Tea is a wonderful drink for pregnancy. There are so many types that have a multitude of benefits for a mommy to be. Peppermint helps nausea, sleepy time helps with relaxation, etc. Find your favorite tea and sip a cup! Good news is hot tea won't push you over your caffeine limit.

7) Spend Some Time Alone

Spending time alone, decompressing from the day and the world is important. Sometimes you just need time away from everyone--including your husband.

8) Get a Massage

Consult your doctor before getting a professional massage, but massages are wonderfully relaxing.

9) Get a Pedicure or Manicure.

There's nothing like taking a moment to be pampered. I love getting a pedicure and feeling pretty and pampered for the day!

10) Spend An Entire Day In Bed!

This is probably my favorite self care tactic. Every Sunday I dedicate time to just laying in bed and relaxing. Lying down helps take pressure off my body and to recuperate from the week.

Whatever tactic you use, self care is extremely important during pregnancy. Take that time to care for yourself, and thus your baby. What self care have you used while pregnant? Leave a comment below!
