This is Halloween!
Welcome to the Brock's spooky haunted home! If you can't already tell, I enjoy decorating for the holidays--but mainly Halloween. Ever since I was a child I've been in love with Halloween. However, as I grow older I've become more and more selective with my Halloween decor. While I am fine with spooky lights outside, (no inflatables however, that is a very staunch rule in my house) I am especially picky with the inside of my house.
Far too often Halloween decorations are tacky, cheap, and gaudy. None of those titles are things I want associated with my house. Since I like a more simplistic style, I found it very difficult to decorate for Halloween.
Now I was a "Goth" in high school. Yes, not too extreme as homeschooling doesn't permit much, but I was fairly Goth lol. I've always loved Gothic style, novels, music, etc. Edgar Allen Poe was, and is, my home boy.
So, the best bet for a style that would fit me would be Gothic. So I went for it.

I'm in love! I have recently added a strand of orange and purple lights to it.
To Recreate:
Lace mantle cover: $9 on Amazon
Buffalo-check pumpkins: $9.99 at Hobby Lobby
Small orange pumpkins: $10 each at Walmart. You can get smaller ones for only $5!
Large buffalo-check pumpkin: $14 T.J. Maxx, they have a large selection of plush pumpkins
Wreath: It is actually a cotton wreath I got at Hobby Lobby a while back, but I didn't want to take it out of the basket since it took a lot of work to get the dang thing in there! So, I took a dollar tree black feather boa and wrapped it around the wreath to create a simple feather wreath.

Nevermore book: I made this one out of an classical book I found at Goodwill. I practice calligraphy and used that to create the book!
Old photograph $1 at our local antique store. Lots of times, old photographs can be purchased at your local thrift store or antique store. Never pay more than $5 for an old photograph though, they shouldn't run more than $3 usually.
Raven: $1 at Dollar Tree!
Candelabra: $15 T.J. Maxx
Lights: I actually got these for $4 at Dollar General. They are good for some cheap one use lights. Don't be disappointed however if next year they don't work.
Also pictured below is our skeleton, but more on him in a later post.

I continued to expand my Gothic style to the rest of the living room. Just ignore our spare bedroom in the background that is currently being used as storage as we continue to unpack.

To Recreate
Bats: $8 on Amazon! They come with their own sticky pads, which works great on my cold plaster walls.
Green spider web: $3 at Walmart. Much higher quality than Dollar Tree. I would recommend spending the extra $2 and getting the good stuff.
Moss: $3 at Walmart. It comes in lots of different colors.
Lights: $5 at Walmart. Walmart has pretty high quality lights, so very much worth the money.

Skull and Raven print: $9 on Amazon! It doesn't come with a frame so make sure to pick up a frame as well.
Raven Print: $9 also on Amazon. Once again, it doesn't come with a frame so make sure to snag one to keep the prints nice. Both are very high quality and printed on book pages.

It's even prettier lit up at night! After all, who doesn't like some Halloween cookies, wine, spooky lights, and Hocus Pocus!
I hope you enjoyed exploring my hauntingly inviting living room! I look forward to posting about the rest of the house's decorations in upcoming posts!
