I'm so excited to start my weekly antique spotlight! This spotlight will feature different antiques that I have found, give a brief history of the piece or design, where I found it, etc. In future, I want to take reader submissions on the amazing antiques they have found! I'd love to interview folks about their favorite family heirlooms, antique or thrift store finds, etc! If you'd be interested in being featured in this weekly segment, send me an email or leave a comment below!
So lets get this rolling!
The Piece

So what is this antique?:
This is a collection of alabaster eggs. They are smooth, polished stone and come in various sizes. This group isn't a complete collection, but rather gathered from various places.
Where did you find it?:
My aunt actually gave these to me as a gift. She found them at various antique stores in Central Georgia and Savannah Georgia.
What is the history of this piece? Is it a family heirloom?:
These particular ones are not family heirlooms but they are based off of a collection of my grandmothers. My grandmother collected alabaster eggs. She often would pick them up and run her hands over the smooth stone. It was a sort of calming ritual to her. My aunt saw my grandmother doing this, and began doing it herself. She found she enjoyed it as much as my grandmother. After my grandmother's passing, my aunt began to collect these eggs. She eventually amassed a large collection and was kind enough to give me some! Now I often come by and run my hands over the cold stone of the eggs.

Do you know any of the history of similar antiques?:
I know a bit of history of alabaster eggs. They apparently were a big trend in Italy and came to be a big trend in America. Often pottery shops or craft shops will sell these beauties! I have also found many new eggs made from polished gemstone in the Georgia mountains.
What made you choose this particular antique for your home?
It was a beautiful gift and a sweet reminder of my grandmother.

How do you display it? Does it have a special place in your home?:
Currently, I sit the eggs on silver candle sticks for stands. I want to get a small silver bowl to hold the rest of the smaller eggs. I keep them displayed on the living room coffee table. It's definitely a conversation piece and something fun to touch! \
