During our long quarantine, we took the initiative to paint our old deck. While our deck was very well built, it needed some TLC. The wood was getting some severe water damage, so we decided to seal it before any more damage was done.
The Process:

First thing's first, we needed to pressure was the entire deck. My husband pressure washed the deck which took a full day. This deck had a LOT of grime on it so it was tedious work. However after a good full day of work, the deck was cleaned!

After pressure washing we started painting. We started with the railing. We decided to go with white rails and a blue/gray floor. These colors are the same as our front porch. The blue/gray and the white works really well together!

It took three coats of paint to cover the railings, very slow going and tedious work. After spending the day in a full squat, we were more than just a little sore!
The next step was to work on the floors. It took three coats of the blue/gray to really get into the wood. Below is our first coat!

This was a three day project, so after the first coat of paint on the floor it was dark and time to rest. The next day it was back at the floors with a second coat!

We continued to do two more coats on the floors and I painted the covers for the posts. I love the black and white contrast, and the black ties beautifully with the door trim.
The Finished Product:
The end result was amazing! It looks so much better than the ugly brown wood that was covered in grime and water damage. Once again this is proof of the saying "A little paint can make a BIG difference!" . The paint breathed new life into this deck and made everything look so much cleaner and coordinated.
This was definitely one of the bigger quarantine projects for us, and definitely one of the most physically strenuous! We spent and entire week doing painting projects and our bodies definitely took the toll. Painting is a surprisingly strenuous activity.
